  • Edit your writing about materials to meet the 100 character requirements

  • Edit your writing about materials to highlight the connections between your ideas and the materials you selected

  • Add your artwork dimensions to the Portfolio Push Template

  • Leave a comment sharing 1-2 examples of your material writing and ask for feedback.

Step 1: Connect your ideas to your materials

You don’t have to connect every material back to an idea. Try to demonstrate how 1-2 materials connect to your ideas.

Examples:

Idea: Power dynamics

Watercolor paint = lack of control, ink= permanence, cold press watercolor paper, paintbrush

Idea: Does money equal happiness?

Scraps of colorful patterned fabric to show the contrast of poverty and joy in everyday life, I used thread to sew the scraps together with my Grandmothers sewing machine. My grandmothers sewing machine connects to my idea by demonstrating creating with what you have instead of buying new materials, as well as how families do or don’t hand things down generation after generation creating generational wealth. Wealth can be defined as money or joy.
