What jobs do you have to do if you self-publish + when to hire

When self-publishing, you must either do all the steps yourself or hire someone to do tasks that you can’t or don’t want to complete. By taking this course, you're getting a solid head start, as I'm giving you a lot of resources. Your goals and skill set will help you determine if you can do all of the work below, if you want to hire, or if you will remove a few of these jobs from your book publishing to-do list. For example, you may determine that your book won't have any images, so no illustrator for you. You might make the book to share with family and friends, but you're not focused on broad distribution or sales, so you might skip marketing.

Reflect:

  • Why do you want to publish a book?

  • Who is the book for?

  • After you publish the book, what do you hope happens?

In future days, we'll go into detail for each of the following roles and clear actions you will take. For today, we're going to go over the key roles and responsibilities that need to be done when you're self publishing so that you can start to determine if you want to do the work, hire the work, or partner with a friend.

As you review each description and task list, start making notes, indicating what tasks you want to do, which you hope someone else will do, and those you 100% know you want to hire for or don't want to do at all.
